BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two people have died and another was injured after a vehicle carrying three occupants slammed into a home in Boyle Heights on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Fire officials said the car was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when the crash happened in the 1500 block of Pleasant Avenue around 11 a.m., according to an alert by the LAFD. Fire officials initially stated the crash occurred in the 1600 block but later reported the correction.

One unidentified male occupant was transported and later died at a nearby hospital. Another person, who was sitting in the back of the vehicle, got out of the wreck and was transported with minor to moderate injuries.

Fire officials pronounced the third victim - a pregnant woman who remained trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle located underneath a collapsed porch - dead at the scene.

Authorities said the male driver was shot right before the crash happened, which destroyed half of the home. The woman, who was in the passenger seat, was said to be three to four months pregnant.

Officials said the vehicle was traveling so fast when it plowed through the front of the home, it took the building off of its foundation.

Authorities said the violence began at the corner of Cesar E. Chavez Avenue and Echandia Street when a passenger in a black SUV got out of the car, ran in front of the white car and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Firefighters said an elderly woman and her son were inside the home at the time of the crash and were not injured.

Investigators were looking over surveillance footage from nearby buildings. The incident was also being looked into as gang related.

The home was red tagged because it was knocked off its foundation.
