LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Two firefighters were injured Saturday in Long Beach while attempting to knock down a two-story residential fire.

The fire was reported shortly after 1:45 p.m. in the 550 block of East 32nd Street. By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had spread to both stories and required extensive man power before it could be knocked down, Long Beach fire officials said.

Eight engines, two trucks, three paramedic units and two battalion chiefs were called to the scene.

One firefighter received second degree burns to the lower leg and another twisted an ankle.

The Red Cross was aiding three tenants, who were not home at the time.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
