INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman and man were killed in an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Inglewood early Sunday morning.

The Inglewood Police Department received a call around 3 a.m. regarding an occupied car stopped facing a westbound lane of traffic at the intersection of Manchester Boulevard and Inglewood Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a woman in the car holding a gun. An officer-involved shooting then occurred, police said.

Witnesses in the area said they heard gunshots around 4:15 a.m. in the 300 block of W. Manchester Boulevard, near the front of a 7-Eleven.

"I heard gunshots. They woke me up and it was pretty heavy duty. I looked out the window and hesitated to come out because I saw the helicopter flying - didn't know what was going on," resident Rowland Anderson said.

Anderson added that he eventually went outside and then saw the flashing lights of police cruisers.

Authorities said both people in the car were hit by gunfire and the woman was killed. The man inside the car was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A gun was recovered at the scene.

The identities of the man and woman were not released pending next of kin.

Authorities closed off Manchester Boulevard between Cedar and Eucalyptus avenues during the investigation.

Anyone with information into the incident was asked to call the Inglewood Police Department at (310) 412-5246 or the 24-hour anonymous hotline at (888) 412-7463.
