DOWNEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A 4-month-old boy died and three adults were injured early Saturday morning after a collision involving a pickup truck and an overturned SUV at an intersection in Downey, authorities said.

The crash happened shortly before 2 a.m. at Firestone Boulevard and Brookshire Avenue, according to a statement from the Downey Police Department.

A black Mercedes-Benz SUV, driven by a 23-year-old man, was heading southbound on Brookshire when it has hit by a red Chevy Silverado, the news release said. A 34-year-old man was behind the wheel of the pickup, which was traveling eastbound on Firestone.

Two passengers in the SUV - a 4-month-old boy and 21-year-old woman - suffered injuries initially described by authorities as moderate-to-major. They were rushed to hospitals, where the baby later died and the woman was listed in stable condition.

The two drivers sustained minor injuries, police said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
