SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man who authorities said was seen with a gun in a South Los Angeles neighborhood allegedly took his own life during a police search Sunday.

The search began at 6:16 a.m. Police warned residents to stay inside their homes during the search, which also prompted closures at Gage Avenue to 69th Street and Figueroa to Estrella Avenue.

Around 9:15 a.m., police ended the search after they said it appeared the man possibly committed suicide. LAPD called the incident an officer-involved shooting since officers and the suspect exchanged gunfire before he ended his own life.

No evacuations were ordered and no other injuries were reported.
