BARSTOW, Calif. (KABC) -- A high school principal in Barstow is facing charges for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old female student.

On Friday, Barstow police arrested 35-year-old Mark Hassell, the principal of Barstow Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Academy.

Police say they received a report of the alleged crime on Tuesday. Detectives say the victim reported she had been involved in a consensual sexual relationship with Hassell for some time.

During the later investigation, detectives obtained further evidence indicating the two were engaged in a sexual relationship.

Hassell was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Barstow Jail for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, sodomy and oral copulation.
