DOCKWEILER BEACH, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A body recovered at Dockweiler Beach Wednesday afternoon was identified as D.J. Jeffries, the swimmer who went missing last week off Manhattan Beach, officials said. His body was discovered around 12:35 p.m.

Jeffries, 25, was reported missing April 19 after he went swimming at Manhattan Beach.

He was last seen about 50 yards from the shore near 18th Street. Friends of the former U.S. Army serviceman told lifeguards they did not see him struggling in the ocean and had not realized he had gone underwater.

The Coast Guard and Los Angeles County Sheriff's dive team conducted searches, at the time, but were unable to locate him.
