EL MONTE, Calif. (KABC) -- El Monte police released graphic surveillance video Wednesday of a brutal beating and stabbing of a man in the hopes of finding the five suspects involved.
Shortly after midnight on April 6, a car drove by a 36-year-old man riding his bicycle on Elliot and Tyler avenues. The passenger in the vehicle yelled at the man, who continued riding, police said.
The car then made a U-turn and followed the victim. At one point, three men exited the car and confronted the victim.
The victim attempted to run, but the suspects caught up to him at the southwest corner of Elliot and Continental avenues and proceeded to punch, kick and stab him multiple times.
The suspect vehicle, a 2013-2014, 4-door Honda Civic that was possibly black or gray, pulled up and picked up the suspects, then drove away.
"At this time, we know the suspects are strangers to the victim, which makes this even more serious," El Monte Police Sgt. Rodger Cobian said.
The victim suffered life-threatening injuries, including more than a dozen stab wounds, and was taken to a hospital.
The suspects were described:
