SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect was hospitalized after an officer-involved shooting took place in San Bernardino at the end of a car chase Sunday afternoon.

San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies received a 911 call regarding an armed man fighting with a family member around 3 p.m. When deputies arrived at the scene, the suspect drove away in a Ford Explorer, prompting a car chase.

The chase ended at 28th Street and Glenview Avenue after the man crashed into the front yard of a home, authorities said.

When the chase ended, the suspect got out of the car and pulled out a gun, according to authorities. One witness said the suspect pointed the gun he had to his cheek before pointing it at the deputies.

An officer-involved shooting broke out, and the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Sixto Casillas, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Cellphone video captured at the scene showed two deputies with their guns pointed at Casillas. As soon as he raised his arms, the deputies and a San Bernardino police officer opened fire, shooting several rounds.

Witnesses in the neighborhood watched from inside their homes and down the street. Authorities said there were several minutes that went by from the time the suspect got out of the SUV. The deputies ended up firing once the suspect pointed a gun in their direction.

No officers were injured in the shooting, and Casillas is expected to survive.

The investigation was ongoing.
