COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- Nearly 1,000 people were without power early Thursday morning in Compton after a truck slammed into a fire hydrant and then hit a power pole.
The crash occurred near El Segundo Boulevard and Central Avenue around 3 a.m. A pickup truck crashed into the hydrant and then rammed into the base of a power pole.
Water from the broken hydrant kept gushing for hours following the collision. It was shut off shortly before 6 a.m.
The impact caused the power pole to be cut from its base. It appeared to be barely hanging on by the power lines.
Utility workers were on scene trying to restore power. As of 9 a.m., around 600 people were still without power. All power was expected to be restored by around 11:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Officials say the driver of the truck stayed at the scene and was not arrested.
