LEWISTON, Idaho (KABC) -- Dashcam video from an Idaho police car shows the tense moments when an officer was ambushed by a man hiding with a gun in a trunk during a traffic stop.

The incident happened Monday night in Lewiston, Idaho. Lewiston Officer Tom Woods was conducting a traffic stop for a car that had no license plate and belonged to a suspect that had outstanding warrants, according to KLEW-TV.

Woods did the traffic stop and discovered that it was the suspect's mother driving the car. He said he felt there was something wrong about the situation and called for backup.

The video shows Woods moving toward the back of the car and out pops the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jesse Harrell, who was armed with a gun. Woods then quickly wrestles Harrell to the ground.

According to authorities, Harrell had several outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court on cases involving malicious injury to property and driving without privileges. Court records also showed that Harrell had a criminal history of resisting arrest and obstructing officers.

Harrell was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and aggravated assault. His mother was also arrested for obstruction of justice.
