Decision delayed on future of Greek Theatre
Nederlander Concerts or Live Nation? That's the tough choice the Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Commission put off Thursday.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Commission delayed choosing an operator for the iconic Greek Theatre after community input on Thursday.

Nederland Concerts has operated the attraction located in the heart of Griffith Park for close to 40 years. But as its contract expires next October, a bid from Live Nation may edge the company out.

"For us, it's very important that we support our community. We make it an even better amphitheater than it is today and continue to build great experience for the city," said Joe Berchtold, chief operating officer of Live Nation.

Both sides submitted lengthy multi-million dollar proposals for a 20-year-contract. Live Nation's entry won support of the review panel.

"We were unanimously recommended by every member of the panel, scoring across the board as the best solution for the city," Berchtold said.

But many local residents are siding with Nederlander's bid, which was made in partnership with events giant AEG. Nederland Concerts collected more than 20,000 signatures of public support.

We "have built that foundation. We have brought the building to be a first-class entertainment venue," said Rena Wasserman, general manager of the Greek Theatre.

She added: "This jewel of California in Los Angeles is owned by the city. It is owned by the people of Los Angeles. We create an environment for people to come and enjoy music in the most exquisite setting in the city."
