Driver sought in hit-and-run in Hawthorne that injured 2 people, including 4-year-old

HAWTHORNE, Calif. (KABC) -- The driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash in Hawthorne that injured two people, including a 4-year-old girl, remains at large after police released him not realizing his alleged involvement in the crash.

The wreck, which was captured on the dashcam of a nearby motorist, occurred Feb. 15 in the 12700 block of Crenshaw Boulevard.

According to police, a Chrysler 200 was driving at a high rate of speed southbound on Crenshaw Boulevard when it veered into the northbound lanes and crashed into a Toyota Camry.

The Chrysler then went airborne, completed a full 360-degree rotation before striking a second car, carrying a mother and two small children, ages 8 and 4.

Following the crash, the driver of the Chrysler fled on foot, police said.

The driver of the Camry was transported to an area hospital with injuries to the neck and back. The 4-year-old in the second car was treated at the scene for pain to her arm and shoulder. She was taken for treatment by her mother.

Officers identified the driver of the Chrysler as Orland Lewis, 26. Police said he had just been involved in a previous hit-and-run crash near 120th Street and Prairie Avenue and was in the process of fleeing when he crashed on Crenshaw Boulevard.

Police said Lewis was arrested the day after the crash on an unrelated fraud charge, but investigators said he posted bail before investigators made the connection to the Hawthorne crash.

Lewis is being sought on charges of felony hit-and-run and credit card fraud.
