Fire erupts at Costa Mesa hotel; dogs rescued

COSTA MESA, Calif. (KABC) -- Several dogs were rescued after a two-alarm fire broke out on the roof of a Costa Mesa hotel Saturday afternoon.

The blaze erupted at the Travelodge Orange County Airport/Costa Mesa hotel in the 1400 block of Bristol Street around 12:45 p.m.

Thirty-three firefighters responded to the scene, Costa Mesa Battalion Chief Bill Kershaw said.

Smoke could be seen billowing out of the top of the building. All of the guests were able to get out safely, as well as several dogs that were staying at the hotel, Kershaw said.

A total of 42 rooms suffered smoke or water damage. No one was hurt. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
