Hundreds protest California vaccine bill in Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- Hundreds of parents and activists converged at the Health Freedom Rally in Santa Monica Friday to take a stand against the new law requiring schoolchildren in California to be fully vaccinated with very limited exceptions.

"Gov. Brown making this a law is a complete assault to mothers and children," Wendy Silvers, founder of Million Mamas Movement, said.

Silvers says SB277, which will take effect in 2016, needs to be repealed. The measure applies to public and private schools, as well as day care facilities.

Opponents assert that the state is eliminating informed consent and trampling on parental rights. Watch Denise Dador's report in the video above.
