Perris woman accused of ordering hit on father of child

PERRIS, Calif. (KABC) -- A 20-year-old Perris woman who allegedly ordered a hit on the father of her child has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder. The man survived four gunshot wounds.

Authorities say the victim, who was 24 at the time, was sitting in his parked vehicle in the 23300 block of Edmond Street in Perris when he was approached by the suspects in another vehicle on Dec. 30.

They asked for directions and then one of the suspects opened fire, shooting the victim multiple times.

Judy Avalos was arrested the next day as she was visiting him at the hospital, according to the Press-Enterprise.

Avalos and the victim were dating at the time and have a 4-year-old child. A defense attorney says Avalos believed her boyfriend would only be beaten up.

The Press-Enterprise reported that Avalos told investigators that her boyfriend had been mistreating her and "they had been arguing all week."

Court documents reveal Avalos previously called her boyfriend to ask if he'd been shot at and deleted incriminating texts from her phone.

Avalos has pleaded not guilty and is being held on $1 million bail.

No one else has been arrested or charged for the shooting. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
