CANYON COUNTRY, SANTA CLARITA (KABC) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were investigating the shooting death of an alleged apartment intruder in Canyon Country Friday night.
Santa Clarita Station deputies responded to the 26000 block of Isabella Parkway at about 9:10 p.m. after a man notified authorities he shot a suspect who broke into his apartment.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to witnesses, the apartment resident told the suspect several times to leave because he did not live there, but the suspect ignored him. The intruder then allegedly broke out the window and started to climb inside the apartment when the apartment resident opened fire.
Witnesses told ABC7 they heard between five and seven gunshots. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
The apartment owner was being detained at the Santa Clarita Station pending additional investigation, LASD officials said.
