LA HABRA, Calif. (KABC) -- Federal authorities are looking into numerous break-ins to postal boxes at a post office in La Habra.

Customers at the post office branch at 1001 W. Imperial Highway say the P.O. boxes have been broken into numerous times. They say items containing personal and financial information, such as mortgage and utility bills, were stolen. Some wonder if the crooks somehow obtained a master key.

Postal inspectors said they are still looking into just how many thefts occurred.

"The Postal Inspection Service is investigating this case," the agency said in a written statement.

The service also advised customers to pick up their mail on a daily basis.

For customers who use the La Habra post office, the rash of thefts is a troubling trend.

"We really rely on our mailbox," said customer Nerisa Magor of La Habra. "We don't have it mailed directly to our condo, we have it mailed right here. So yeah it's kinda scary because you got all of your checks and your social security inside."
