LAPD shooting of 24-year-old man under investigation

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An officer-involved shooting that left a 24-year-old man dead in South Los Angeles is under investigation.

The confrontation happened on Monday at about 8:20 p.m. According to the LAPD, officers were conducting an investigative stop in the 200 block of West 65th Street.

There was a struggle between officers at the suspect, police said, and at least one officer opened fire. The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The suspect's name has not been released, and it is unknown if the suspect had gang affiliations.

No officers were injured in the incident. It was unclear what prompted the confrontation. No further information was released.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson called for a meeting with LAPD Chief Charlie Beck to discuss the shooting.
