LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent John Deasy will resign, possibly as early as Thursday morning, Eyewitness News has confirmed.

The LAUSD board discussed Deasy's performance review during a closed-door session two weeks ago.

A source told Eyewitness News there were four school board members ready to vote Deasy out. Knowing that, the source says Deasy agreed to step aside and enter into negotiations for a separation agreement.

A series of problems that have long angered some parents has lead up to this.

Deasy has come under fire because of problems with MiSiS, a new student records system, and his billion-dollar iPad program.

The program was suspended after Deasy received criticism over his close ties to Apple and Pearson, the company that manages the educational content.

There were major problems with scheduling classes at Jefferson High School, and questions continue to swirl about when the district really knew about the child abuse inside Miramonte Elementary.

United Teachers Los Angeles in early September called for Deasy to be put on leave amid the iPad investigation. Throughout his tenure, Deasy often sparred with the teacher's union.

UTLA declined to comment in a statement to Eyewitness News Wednesday night.

Under Deasy, LAUSD has had higher graduation rates, an increase in AP class enrollment and higher test scores.

Deasy was scheduled to be in South Korea this week.

There was word that the LAUSD could announce that a deputy superintendent could take over as the interim superintendent.

Deasy became superintendent in 2011. He did not respond to requests for comment from Eyewitness News on Wednesday night.
