Lifeguard building collapses at Point Mugu

POINT MUGU, VENTURA COUNTY (KABC) -- A State Parks administrative lifeguard building collapsed into the ocean Wednesday night after sustaining damage from large swells, a state parks official said.

No one was hurt in the collapse, which happened around 10 p.m., according to Craig Sap with California State Parks. The building was cleared earlier in the day in anticipation of its collapse. The swells cracked the foundation, which was first observed Tuesday night, Sap said.

The building was part of Point Mugu State Park, and was located off Pacific Coast Highway at Sycamore Canyon. It dated back to about the 1950s.

The building was used for administrative purposes and lifeguard training.

State park employees remained on hand Wednesday night to monitor the situation.
