Police said a man attempted to kidnap a 4-year-old girl in Victorville on Friday, July 1, 2016.

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (KABC) -- A man attempted to kidnap a 4-year-old girl from inside a store in Victorville, and police said the incident was captured on surveillance camera.

Victorville police said the attempted kidnapping happened in the 15300 block of 7th Street at about 2:35 p.m. on Friday.

Video captured a mother holding her young child in her arms as her 4-year-old girl was by her side as the three entered the store.

While the girl was standing by the door, police said 24-year-old Terry Ransom, of Hesperia, grabbed her and pulled her outside, but lost his grip on the girl as she attempted to get away.

The mother chased after Ransom as he ran away from the scene, police stated.

Ransom was located near the scene and taken into custody without incident, according to authorities.

Though scared and upset, police said it appeared the girl did not suffer any injuries.

Ransom was evaluated at the hospital then booked for kidnapping and child cruelty.

Anyone with information about incident was urged to call the Victorville Police Department at (760) 241-2911. Callers wishing to remain anonymous were urged to call 1-800-782-7436.
