Man critically injured in explosion at Boyle Heights industrial site

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man was critically injured in an explosion at an industrial site in Boyle Heights on Tuesday.

Authorities say the incident happened on the 1700 block of Perrino Place as the 40-year-old victim, a driver of a propane service truck, was filling up his tank at Ekco Metals at 11:50 a.m.

The man was transported to a local hospital with second- and third-degree burns over most of his body, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The circumstances of the accident were under investigation.
