LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities were investigating the shooting death of a man in Los Alamitos on Sunday.
Friends of the victim suspected a neighbor may have been involved in his death.
Los Alamitos police responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Catalina and Pine streets at about 5:05 p.m. When officers arrived, they found the man shot dead in the street. Investigators said he was shot multiple times.
Neighbors and church friends of the victim identified him as 39-year-old Sangju Sung. They said he was a dedicated husband and father to his 3-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son, and was very involved at Sa-Rang Community Church in Anaheim.
"Just a nice guy, little kids, wife, it's tough," Jim Pilkenton said.
Pilkenton lives near Sung and said as soon as he heard the shots, he suspected another neighbor pulled the trigger.
Friends said Sung had been having trouble with a neighbor and had just texted his wife that the man was causing problems again shortly before the gunfire erupted.
"He was very unstable. He's a ticking time bomb. I feel so bad," Pilkenton said.
Anyone with information about this deadly shooting was asked to contact the Los Alamitos Police Department at (562) 431-2255 ext. 426 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) 847-6227.
