Mayor Eric Garcetti returns to Eyewitness Newsmakers for 'Ask the Mayor'
L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti discussed the prospect of 14 days of electricity blackouts due to the gas leak at the Aliso Canyon gas storage facility, and answered viewer questions regarding ongoing city issues.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti appeared on this week's Eyewitness Newsmakers for another edition of Ask the Mayor. He addressed the possibility of blackouts due to the gas leak in Porter Ranch, and answered questions from viewers focused on some of the city's ongoing issues.

Garcetti discussed the prospect of 14 days of electricity blackouts this summer. State and local officials say the Aliso Canyon gas storage, which is only partially operating after last year's massive gas leak, could leave the city's power plants low on fuel during peak demand.

The mayor is calling on everyone to conserve. He is also urging regulators to find a safe way to bring in enough natural gas so lives aren't jeopardized.

The mayor will deliver his third State of the City Address Thursday. He said he will make a case for the Metro tax to expand the region's transit system. He said, "Let's get the job done."

Viewers asked the mayor questions about issues including the high cost of housing, and how the city will get the homeless off the streets.

Eyewitness Newsmakers airs Sunday morning at 11 a.m. on ABC7.
