LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad, who at age 64 became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage, visited the ABC7 studio on Friday.

She's promoting a new memoir, "Find A Way," as well as a new exercise program called EverWalk.

Her story, she said, is one of perseverance that she hopes can inspire everyone.

"It's called 'Find A Way' because I don't care what you're battling - cancer, you've got a disabled child, you're up against it, you've lost a job - if you just don't quit, you will find a way to get to your other shore, whatever it is," Nyad said.

EverWalk is a series of walks designed to get people out of their chairs and keep active in the outdoors. The first event will go from Los Angeles to San Diego on Oct. 23-29. Within five years, she says, she hopes to get 1 million participating and walking across the country.
