Residents living in San Nicolas de Los Ranchos near Mexico's active Popocatepetl volcano were under a yellow alert on Tuesday, meaning they are ready to evacuate if necessary.
A time lapse video shows the volcano spewing a large plume of ash and gas more than 1.25 miles into the sky on Monday.
The peak is the second tallest in Mexico, after the Citlaltepetl at over 18,000 feet.
The Popocatepetl volcano is located in the states of Puebla, Mexico.
