Nanny caught on camera in Redlands case appears in court

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A nanny accused of abusing a toddler in her care appeared in court in San Bernardino Wednesday. The alleged abuse was caught on a "nanny-cam" in April.

Mentone resident Gina Halliburton's arraignment was continued Wednesday. Halliburton is due back in court on December 2. If convicted, she could get a maximum of six years in prison.

Halliburton is seen on nanny-cam video allegedly stuffing a bib into the mouth of a 22-month-old boy because he wouldn't eat the kinds of foods that she wanted him to.

"I'm very mad, have been from day one," said Richard Scott, the boy's grandfather, outside court Wednesday. "It's just appalling conduct, in my opinion, and hopefully she'll be brought to justice."

Scott expressed frustration over some comments that Halliburton apparently made on her Facebook page about what happened.

"They are essentially Gina almost gloating about what she did to Preston on several occasions, and sharing it with her Facebook friends," said Scott.

This isn't the only case of alleged abuse by a nanny going on in the Inland Empire right now. Video from a camera installed inside a home in Fontana shows a nanny allegedly shaking a 1-year-old girl as siblings look on.

The two cases are similar because both times it was apparently video caught on a nanny-camera that led the families to call police.

"Having a nanny-cam is almost a necessity these days," said Scott. "This nanny was hired from a firm and allegedly pre-screened, and we had no idea, no idea whatsoever. She had been the nanny for almost a year and they decided to get a nanny-cam, and the very day that they installed it, they found this abuse occurring."
