OC Water District considers desalination plant in Huntington Beach
The board of directors for the Orange County Water District are taking serious steps toward building a desalination plant in Huntington Beach amid the ongoing drought.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- The board of directors for the Orange County Water District are taking serious steps toward building a desalination plant in Huntington Beach amid the ongoing drought.

The district is working with Poseidon Water, the same developer behind a desalination plant in Carlsbad. Poseidon wants to use that same technology in Orange County.

A pipe from an existing power plant would be used, which will have a screen attached to it, and it will suck water from near the ocean floor. But some conservationists oppose the project for many reasons, including damage that can be done to the ecosystem.
