Some parents at a local charter school are concerned that a cellphone tower may be going up near the campus despite limits on where those towers can be installed.

Concerned parents of Larchmont Charter School contacted Eyewitness New using #abc7eyewitness. They said they recently found out about the plan to install a cell tower inside a bell tower at St. Ambrose Church, which is directly next to the school.

Parents said radiation from the cell tower will have harmful effects on their children.

"I have a Ph. D and a Masters in medical sciences from Harvard Medical School. I know there are many, many studies about the increased chances of cancer and the increased risks, and I don't know why we would take any risks with our children," Valerie Weiss said.

The Los Angeles Unified School District has a ban on cell towers near schools, which gave many parents hope until they contacted the district for help.

Daisy Gardner said there was nothing the LAUSD could do because it is a charter school.

In a statement, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles said, "The proposal is in preliminary stages and has yet to be finalized or approved. The public hearing process will start soon and provide a forum for community members to share their opinion."

A public hearing is scheduled with the city of West Hollywood on Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at the West Hollywood Library, 625 N. San Vincente Blvd.
