ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- A male pedestrian was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Anaheim early Tuesday.

Witnesses say the suspect was driving at a high rate of speed in an alley on the 100 block of East Wakefield Avenue when it struck the victim around 3 a.m.

The victim was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center in critical condition by Anaheim Fire Department officials.

The vehicle was described as a newer model Ford Focus. Investigators say it should have major front end damage.
