VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- A fast-moving brush fire charred 1,200 acres and threatened homes at Solimar Beach, between Ventura and Carpinteria, early Saturday morning.

The fire threatened more than two dozen homes in the Solimar Beach community and prompted mandatory evacuations. Strong winds and dry vegetation fueled the blaze to quickly burn through hundreds of acres overnight.
