INDIO, Calif. (KABC) -- Two children were injured after being attacked by a pit bull in Indio Saturday night, police said.

The victims, an 11-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy, were waiting for a friend outside his home on Avenue 34, near Burr Street, when the 4-year-old dog, named Cucuy, broke free from his restraint on the property.

The 5-year-old boy suffered a bite wound to the back of his head and was transported to a local hospital. The 11-year-old was bit in the stomach and on one of his hands.

The pit bull's owner surrendered him to Riverside County Animal Services for humane euthanasia.

Officials say the same dog bit the owner's son in the head in April.
