PLAYA DEL REY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A homicide investigation is underway after a man's body was found at a jetty in Playa del Rey.
Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said the body was found in a rocky area of the water along the shore at the 6100 block of Ballona Creek around 7:20 p.m. Sunday.
How long the body had been in the creek remains unknown. The investigation was ongoing.
Residents who walk, jog and bike the trails along the creek say they are very concerned about the grim discovery.
"I think it's awful. I think it's a really nice community. It's a great beach community. I walk my dog down here almost every day. I take her around the jetty. You just don't see that kind of violence around here," said Scott Farris, a Playa del Rey resident.
Investigators spent the night and early morning hours at the scene and did not come up with many clues. The coroner's office said the body is so badly decomposed, it is going take them awhile to identify the man.
Anyone with information on this case was urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
