President Obama visits the Southland Thursday; traffic delays expected
Motorists should expect traffic delays in select areas of the Southland Thursday afternoon as President Barack Obama travels through Burbank and the Westside as part of a multi-day trip.

BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) -- Motorists should expect traffic delays in select areas of the Southland Thursday afternoon as President Barack Obama travels through Burbank and the Westside as part of a multi-day trip.

Obama arrived at the airport around 3:25 p.m. and then headed to the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank to tape an interview with Ellen DeGeneres. He'll then head to two separate fundraising events in Hancock Park before spending the night in Westwood.

On Monday and Tuesday he will be in Rancho Mirage to host a summit of the Association of Southeast Nations.

The Los Angeles Police Department urged commuters on Thursday to avoid:

  • the area around N. Hollywood Way between N. San Fernando Boulevard and Forest Lawn Drive from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m.
  • the area around N. Hollywood Way between Forest Lawn Drive and N. San Fernando Boulevard from 4:45 to 6:15 p.m.
  • the area around Rimpau Boulevard between W. Pico Boulevard and W. Sixth Street from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
  • the area around Wilshire Boulevard between S. Hudson Avenue and S. Arden Boulevard from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
  • the area around W. Fourth Street between S. Muirfield Road and Lorraine Boulevard from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m.
  • the area around Crenshaw Boulevard between Wilshire Boulevard and West Adams Boulevard from 8:45 to 10:30 p.m.
  • the area around Wilshire Boulevard between the 405 Freeway and Malcom Avenue from 8:45 to 10:30 p.m.
  • On Friday, motorists should avoid the following areas:

  • the area around Wilshire Boulevard between the Westwood Village area and the 405 Freeway from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
  • the area around S. Bundy Drive between Ocean Park Boulevard and the 10 Freeway from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
  • Eight-minute closures are anticipated on Sepulveda Boulevard between Lincoln and Century boulevards between 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday.

    Los Angeles High School will close at 3 p.m. Thursday, and S. Rimpau Boulevard will be closed between Edgewood Place and West Olympic Boulevard from about 3 to 4 p.m.

    In Burbank, Olive Avenue will be closed between N. Pass Avenue and Hollywood Way from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

    S. Rossmore Avenue in Hancock Park will be closed between West Third Street and Wilshire Boulevard from about 5 to 8 p.m., along with W. Sixth Street between S. Muirfield Road and S. Arden Boulevard during the same time frame.

    S. Windsor Boulevard will be closed between W. Second Street and W. Fifth Street, and W. Third Street will be closed between S. Plymouth and Lorraine boulevards from about 7:30 to 10 p.m.

    Hilgard Avenue in Westwood will be closed between Weyburn and Le Conte avenues from approximately 10 p.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday.
