SAN GABRIEL, Calif. (KABC) -- A San Gabriel high school coach was arrested after police said he had a sexual relationship with a juvenile student and fled with her to Las Vegas.

Authorities said 36-year-old Juan Ivan Barajas, the athletic director at San Gabriel Mission High School, was arrested in Henderson, Nevada, on Tuesday.

Barajas was having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officials said Barajas and the teen fled to Las Vegas when family members learned of the relationship.

Henderson police said Barajas was booked on multiple counts, including statutory sexual seduction.

Officials at San Gabriel Mission High School said Barajas, who has served in various teaching and coaching roles at the school since 2010, was suspended and placed on administrative leave pending the result of the investigation.
