Santa Monica tourist attacked at Coffee Bean

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman on vacation with her husband in Santa Monica was viciously attacked at a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf by another woman.

The woman sat down next to the couple, appearing to yell profanities into a phone. Moments later, she got up, not holding a phone at all, and started describing a woman she wanted to attack.

That woman turned out to be Barbara Lowy. The woman grabbed Lowy's hair, spun her around and threatened to shoot her with a machine gun.

Lowy's husband punched the woman, who then ran out of the store and remained at large.

The assault appeared to be random, but it left Lowy with serious injuries.
