PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- The 210 Freeway was shut down in Pasadena Friday as California Highway Patrol officers took a shirtless suspect into custody.
Authorities say the incident began at 11:34 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway near the Sierra Madre exit. Motorists had called 911 to report a man walking in lanes.
"He started running in the opposite direction down the freeway, and the cop was running after him," said witness Chloe Beauvois.
The suspect then started taking off his clothes, Beauvois said.
The suspect was in the process of being arrested by a CHP officer when he began to fight the officer.
The suspect ran across all lanes to the eastbound side with a handcuff in one hand. He then jumped on a car carrier and handcuffed himself to it.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody after officers used what appeared to be a Taser. The suspect is now undergoing a mental health evaluation.
Westbound lanes of the freeway were reopened just after noon, and eastbound lanes reopened shortly afterward.
