ECHO PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The foundation of a small, single-story home in Echo Park gave way, causing it to collapse Wednesday morning.

The home, located in the 1400 block of Waterloo Street, was on a raised foundation. A woman was inside the home when it collapsed and she suffered a knee injury.

According to neighbors in the area, contract workers were making repairs to the foundation around 7 a.m. when it gave way.

Neighbors said they heard a loud crack, saw what happened and ran out to help.

"I ran out there and the house fell over. I knew someone was in there, and I was knocking and they were yelling but I couldn't open the door. It was locked," neighbor Andy Alvarez said.

The city's Department of Building and Safety will determine what can be done to the home, but Los Angeles firefighters said it will probably be demolished.

A small gas leak happened in the collapse, but firefighters were able to shut it off quickly.
