HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect died after being shot in an officer-involved shooting in Huntington Beach on Saturday.

The shooting happened near Gothard Street and Ernest Drive. According to authorities, a call was received around 5:25 p.m. about a reckless driver in the neighborhood.

Police on scene attempted to stop the driver, but he kept going until he ran into a tree. The suspect then got out of his car and started running up a driveway, police said.

Police said they told the man to stop, but opened fire when he turned around with a gun.

The suspect was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he later died, police said. He was identified as Daniel Walsh, 27, of Huntington Beach.

No officers were injured.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident was urged to contact the Orange County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Division at (714) 647-7055.
