Family witnesses deputy-involved shooting
A family in Apple Valley witnessed a fatal deputy-involved shooting on Wednesday night.

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A homicide suspect was shot and killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Apple Valley on Wednesday night, and the deadly confrontation was caught on cellphone video by a local family.

Authorities were searching for a suspect in an unincorporated area of Apple Valley in the 23000 block of Laramie Street at about 5 p.m.

Deputies spotted the suspect in a Nissan Titan and followed him to the area of Bear Valley and Central roads. The suspect got out of his vehicle, and there was an immediate exchange of gunfire, investigators said.

The suspect was declared dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

A deputy was treated at a local hospital for a minor injury and released.

The intersection was shut down for several hours due to the investigation.
