LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (KABC) -- A Temecula teenager was shot and killed at a motel in Lake Elsinore early Sunday morning. A suspect, also a teen, has been taken into custody.

Friends and family identified the victim as 15-year-old Gage Seal, a freshman at Temecula Valley High School.

Authorities responded to a shooting at the Travel Inn on the 31000 block of Auto Center Drive at 12:45 a.m. and found a teen with a fatal gunshot wound.

After a preliminary investigation, a male juvenile was arrested and booked at Southwest Juvenile Hall. His name has not been released.

"We extend our deepest sympathy to the family on this tragic loss," the Temecula Valley Unified School District said in a statement.

Peyton D'Andre said there was a party at the motel.

On Monday, students wore black in Seal's honor, and many gathered after school at a makeshift memorial. Items on display tell the story of a teen who loved skateboarding and playing baseball.

Counselors were available on campus for students and staff, the district said.

The tragedy comes less than two weeks after another Temecula Valley High School student was gravely injured following a fall on campus.

Osmani Leyva had been taking part in a blindfold class project on May 20 when he fell from a second story rail and landed on the stairs below, witnesses said. He remains at home recovering.
