EXPOSITION PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A woman was fatally stabbed in Exposition Park Friday night, LAPD said.

The incident occurred near 36th Street and Budlong Avenue at about 7:51 p.m. Police said the suspect chased the victim down the street with a broken bottle before stabbing her several times.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Officers with the LAPD's Southwest Division told Eyewitness News that a person driving recklessly near the scene of the stabbing was pulled over and detained. It remains unclear whether this person is linked to the stabbing.

Friday night, the USC Department of Public Safety sent out an alert asking students to stay away from the area until further advised. The fatal stabbing occurred about one block west of campus. The incident did not appear to involve a USC student.
