Ventura man arrested for hitting brother with glass bottle

A 23-year-old Ventura man was arrested for hitting his 31-year-old brother over the head with a glass bottle and resisting arrest Saturday.

Authorities said around 7 p.m., the Ventura Police Command Center received a call from the victim's mother who said her younger son had injured his older brother after hitting him over the head with a bottle.

Officers arrived at the home and contacted Jack Crosby, the victim in the attack. He told officers that he had just come home from shopping when he encountered his younger brother, Michael Crosby. Jack Crosby said his younger brother then struck him over the head with a glass bottle without provocation.

His brother then fled the scene. Jack Crosby suffered a laceration to his neck and head and required treatment at Ventura County Medical Center, but was not admitted to the hospital.

Officers canvassed the neighborhood and found Michael Crosby at Westpark Community Center near W. Harrison Avenue. Crosby was given several verbal commands to stop running and submit to Ventura officers, authorities said. After he failed to submit and showed aggression, officers deployed a K-9 and Crosby was taken into custody.

Authorities said several officers at the scene were familiar with Crosby, who had been involved in a previous violent incident on Jan. 19.

Crosby was taken to Ventura County Medical Center where he was treated for moderate injuries he sustained as a result of his arrest.

He was booked into Ventura County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. He is due to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on Tuesday.

A bail increase was requested due to his involvement in two recent violent incidents. The bail is set at $250,000.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Ventura Police Department at (805) 339-4416.
