GREENWICH VILLAGE, NYC -- New video has been released of a suspect who police say threw a smoke bomb inside a Greenwich Village restaurant Friday evening. The video shows the suspect emerging from the subway grate along the sidewalk and throwing a smoke canister.
"All of a sudden, they told us it was a smoke bomb," said Katherine Wilson, a customer.
Just before 6 p.m. at Bar Pitti on Sixth Avenue, police said someone popped out from under a metal subway grate along the sidewalk, and threw one smoke canister into a cluster of outdoor tables crowded with customers at the Greenwich Village restaurant.
The suspect then fled back into the emergency exit. No one was hurt.
"We heard it was a smoke bomb. Some guy came up from the subway," said Dan Downey, a customer.
WABC-TV, the ABC News affiliate in New York, was first alerted by a tweet by actress Rose McGowan. "Someone just threw two red smoke bombs into the restaurant I was eating in. Eyes are burning. #NYCWHAT," it said.
The suspect is described as a white man with blonde hair, a black hat and an American flag T-shirt.
So far, there are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
