RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- An 8-inch water main broke in a Riverside neighborhood, causing a large sinkhole and damaging the first floor of a home.

The pipe burst around 3:52 p.m. at Canyon Crest Drive and Wildling Place. A neighbor in the area captured video of water shooting several feet into the air after the pipe burst. It took Western Municipal Water District crews about 45 minutes to shut off the water.

Within that time, the water flooded the first floor of a home, as well as the front yard and brought mud into the backyard pool. It was unclear how much the damages would cost the homeowner.

Water district crews used a water pump to clean out the sinkhole and said water would be shut off for several hours. Only two homes in the neighborhood were left without water.
