SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Police in San Bernardino were investigating the shooting death of a young woman who was killed while driving.

Authorities responded to the 1400 block of E. Date Street just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and found the victim inside a vehicle that had just crashed. According to San Bernardino police, the victim was driving when she was shot in the head from someone outside her vehicle. She then lost control of her car and crashed into a fence, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified as 20-year-old Jaemiah Trammel from Colton.

As police cordoned off the crime scene, people who knew the victim started to gather. Then, police say close to 100 people moved in.

"Officers had to push back the crime scene tape a little bit to mitigate that crowd," said Eileen Hards with the San Bernardino Police Department.

There were at least a dozen riot officers at the scene, but no arrests were made, San Bernardino PD said.

Trammel was the only person inside the vehicle, but it was not yet known whether she was the intended target, police said. A suspect description was not available.

"The only information we have now on the suspect is that it was a black male adult and he was wearing blue clothing. So, at this point, we really need the community's help in helping us to identify the suspect and give us information if they know anything about the incident. That's kind of what helped lead to the suspect in the triple homicide that we have," Hards said.

Trammel's death was the 41st homicide of the year. One of the homicides was a recent officer-involved shooting that was ruled a justifiable homicide. There were only 16 homicides at this time last year.

Authorities said the shooting happened near a recent triple-killing, where two men and a 9-year-old boy were fatally shot.

Anyone with information on the incident was urged to contact Detective Munoz at (909) 384-5630 or Sgt. Sullivan at (909) 384-5615 with any information.
