Many believe that a figure seen in a photo from NASA's Curiosity Rover on Mars resembles a Buddha statue.

A recent image captured by NASA's Mars Curiosity Rover shows what some people say looks like a Buddha statue figure on the planet's surface. The image was brought to wide attention by UFO Sightings Daily.

Take a look at the original picture on NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab website and decide for yourself.

YouTube user Paranormal Crucible is credited with originally highlighting the image from NASA's website.

"I think we have seen this statue before, but never this close up. This is a better view of it and shows a face and head turned to its right," writes Scott C. Waring of UFO Sightings Daily. "Very remarkable detail in this photo. This photo alone should be enough to convince the United Nations that intelligent life once existed on Mars, but NASA doesn't want anyone to know the truth."

The UFO sightings website was also the first publicize the mysterious "Dark Lady on Mars" photo in August.

Earlier this month, NASA's Curiosity rover confirmed that the red planet was home to large lakes full of water approximately 3.5 billion years ago.

It is believed ancient Mars had a thicker atmosphere, allowing water on its surface to not immediately evaporate while the Martian atmosphere of modern times is inhospitable to surface water.

In April, Curiosity sent back a stunning photo of Mars' blue sunset. The sunsets on Mars are blue because dust particles on the planet are sized to let blue light through more efficiently than other colors.
