LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A giant slip-and-slide is scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles in September.
The plan, put forward by Slide the City, would turn South Olive Street into a 1,000-feet long water slide. The company calls it a soapy vinyl and "a family friendly water party event."
Although many saw the idea as a fun time, others think it's a waste of water during a time of drought.
"I'm really conservative about water right now. We have a shortage in water right now, so I don't think it's a good idea," Los Angeles resident Aya Row said.
A petition on a care2.com hopes to stop the slide from coming to Los Angeles. So far, it has more than 4,700 signatures.
"It is extremely irresponsible for any city in California to allow an event like one featuring a giant water slide to take place for the sake of money and fun while the state as a whole has been suffering from this drought," said Karina Soto, the author of the petition, on the website.
Slide the City says the slide travels throughout the country and all the water used is brought in and recycled.
"We treat the water to keep it clean and make it to pool standards and then the staff won't shower that day to save water," officials said.
The company said it also partners with generosity.org to provide water to those who don't have access to clean water around the world.
Los Angeles resident Carlos Zaragoza said he was concerned about the water usage, but added: "Let's live a little."
