SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- An amazing achievement by a Tennessee pastor who set out to make a national prayer walk from coast to coast. Pastor Walter McGill arrived at the Santa Monica Pier on Wednesday.

The 69-year-old Vietnam War veteran started out in North Carolina and walked over 3,200 miles carrying an American flag.

Several people, including followers on social media, stopped to show their appreciation.

McGill became emotional, thanking God, his wife and supporters for helping him through his journey.

"I couldn't do this by myself," he said. "I've had hundreds of people praying for me and I could actually feel it, I could feel the power. You know, I'm 69 years old, nothing easy about this."

Now that he's finished his year long trek, Pastor McGill plans to visit churches and pray with people.
